Knowledge On Demand.

Why Did I Get Serious About Resource Management?

An hour of inefficient googling a day adds up to six full workweeks a year.

When I started out, I relied on my server to manage resources, but it wasn’t efficient - limited search functionality meant I still had to find original links manually...and endless clicks through file explorers that lacked visuals made it a mental jumble.

Now, I use Raindrop.io- a bookmark manager where I can keep links tidy, synced, and up-to-date in real time. As a consultant, it’s essential for sharing knowledge, staying current, and supporting due diligence.

I’m now offering a service to help organisations streamline their resource management. Whether subscribing to my curated collection, creating custom collections, or integrating links into apps, this service can save time, money, and offer peace of mind.

The Question Suppliers Ask Most: "How Do You Make Money?"

My consultancy is a new concept and service to the sector, so it’s only natural that people have questions about how it works.

Here’s the thing: I’m just like any other impartial consultant, in that I offer advice in my area of expertise, and I do not sell any products.

Over the years as an ironmonger, I noticed that there are jobs that don’t really fit under anyone’s remit but still need to be done.

One of the challenges that suppliers face is bottle necks around quality management. Things like fact-checking, trouble-shooting and keeping everything and everyone up-to-date with all things technical....

That’s where I come in.

I help suppliers by offering support, such as:

  • Auditing & Reviewing Content: Ensuring the accuracy of product information, blogs etc.
  • Tools to Support Staff Development: From my CPD calendar & knowledge hub to bespoke learning plans.
  • Optimising Fire Testing and Product Ranges: Helping to co-ordinate testing, sponsors & maximising scope of offerings.

These are just some examples but obviously each company is different, and so are their needs. From my perspective, I’m essentially supporting quality management in different ways to suit each client’s unique situation.

It’s all about supporting suppliers to demonstrate competence, avoid reputational risks, and reduce costs.

What I do is not the marketing, selling, or specifying of products- but it is about ensuring that everything in a suppliers marketing, specifications/schedules, and products & services are correct/compliant.

It's about a job well done.

My services are well suited for suppliers who live and breathe excellence- those who strive for continual improvement in everything they do. Whether they need an extra pair of hands or a fresh perspective, I’m there to help them 'iron out' issues and ensure their business stays compliant, competent, and ahead of the curve.

As someone deeply invested in professional development and who values constructive feedback, it’s important to me to work with those who share the same values- people who don’t want to just do the bare minimum and those who are willing to dive in and address the root causes of issues.

Suppliers & Specifiers

Ok, so how does it work and what does it cost?

Aside from offering online tools & resources, I offer three main ways to work together: projects, subscriptions & collaborating through advocacy for safety.

Both projects and subscriptions are priced based on the specific scope of work, with clear deliverables and defined outcomes. After a discovery session to ensure we are a mutually good fit, we’ll identify what success looks like and tailor the approach to fit your company’s unique needs.

I do not provide examples of work, as I work under confidentiality, however, in the first instance, I encourage anyone looking to work with me to verify my competence is suitable, and if the project requires a larger investment, I can offer a paid sample or mock-up to give you an idea of the quality and approach you can expect.

So, when it comes to cost...it depends. Prices range from a few hundred to several thousand per job/phase, depending on the requirements and complexity of what is involved.

What are quality assurance & risk mitigation based services?

Quality assurance and risk mitigation activities can vary for stakeholders depending on where they are in the supply chain, but they typically are some form of risk assessing or gap analysis of information to ensure competence, compliance, compatibility & continual improvement.

  • creating and revising training materials, technical documentation/manuals to enhance competence and support continual improvement
  • delivering workshops and training sessions to provide guidance and enhance stakeholder knowledge

Audits & Quality Management:

  • routine checks & quality management system support, such as process or training development
  • identifying and addressing compliance gaps, providing recommendations for improvement and risk mitigation

But why would a company use a consultant?

Working with a consultant doesn't work for everyone, and it's crucial to ensure it's the right fit, if you choose this option.

All of my clients share a common goal: achieving a high level of quality. Whether they are maintaining their current standards while focusing on continuous improvement, or they are aiming to enhance a specific area, they have a clear vision of where they want to be and understand the value of getting it right and know the benefits that working with a consultant can bring in achieving their objectives. If there isn't an obvious need, it’s probably not the right fit, or maybe it isn't the right time.

They also know that investing in quality assurance and risk mitigation isn’t just about getting it right- it’s about avoiding the costly consequences of getting it wrong.

Without proper processes in place, suppliers risk costly errors, compliance issues, and missed opportunities. These problems can result in reputational damage, wasted time, lost sales, and more. In many cases, the cost of not addressing these risks far outweighs the investment in getting it right the first time.
To reap the full benefits, clear and timely communication, prioritising outcomes, and a commitment to follow-through are essential. I’ve found that clients who value clear communication, respect boundaries, and take action on recommendations achieve great results.
