About

Bryony Matthews, RegAI, DipFD, MGAI
Consultant

I often jest that anyone who finds themselves working in the architectural ironmongery sector must have heard something like the beat of the Jumanji drum calling, and gotten drawn in. Many of us stumbled into this field by chance, myself included. Little did I know, I had been unknowingly accumulating knowledge over time that would eventually fall under the umbrella of 'architectural ironmongery', which led me to become a qualified professional.

With an innate curiosity about how things function, and over a decade of experience under my belt now, I fear I'll never stop scrutinising doors wherever I go.

Over my career of 10+ years, I transitioned from supporting the running of a locksmith business, to ascending through the ranks, from an ironmongery trade counter, to more niche roles in project management and senior operations.

My experience spans from specifications for ironmongery and doors, master key scheduling, to quality management, assurance and more. This journey evolved to process improvement, auditing non-conformances, technical writing & training staff, organising performance tests and overseeing certification processes.

Throughout my career, I came to realise that the ironmongery niche faces unique challenges as a collective- it presented an opportunity to provide support and service to the sector. This realisation gave birth to Iron Out and the new journey I have embarked upon.

It's in the name

'iron out something'
phrasal verb with iron verb /ˈɑɪ·ərn/

to put something into a finished state by solving problems, removing differences, or taking care of details.

Whilst I love a good pun, and my marketing may suggest otherwise, the name has nothing to do with ironing. It is a play on the saying ‘to iron out’, which since launching I'm aware that not everyone knows this!

It’s important to caveat, that it's not about claiming to personally have all of the answers or solutions. Rather, I’m willing to use my position as an independent, impartial professional, to continue to ask the question ‘how can I help?’

It's more than just a name- it's the way I like to work.

To 'iron out' and take care of the details is at the heart of all services and solutions, and my commitment to pursue excellence in equipping you, from start to finish.

Making A Way

Addressing risks associated with ironmongery is undeniably challenging when conflicts of interests among stakeholders arise and attempts to address these risks are perceived as self-serving.

With a commitment to reducing risks through the first consultancy of its kind, Bryony's approach is inclusive of all stakeholders and distinctly places the spotlight on advocacy and safety.

Possessing a unique position through starting Iron Out, Bryony is able to confidently tackle safety issues in a way that has never been done before.

By collaborating with an impartial third party like Iron Out, stakeholders can rely on consistent and trustworthy guidance, backed by reputable sources and a deep understanding of technical information.

This solution not only fosters unity but also ensures that all parties involved benefit from a shared vision of safety and excellence.
